For at least the duration of 2012, BASUG will not sell new memberships, or support renewal of membership fees. In essence, we are phasing out membership, at least through 2012. (We may return to annual memberships at some point in the future.)
We will structure our events (Quarterly Meetings and Trainings) with per event registration and pricing.
• All Quarterly meetings will cost somewhere between $10 to $25 per person. The rate may vary from meeting to meeting, and by when you register and pay.
• All Trainings will have a per-event price to be announced for each Training.
For non-members, or those whose annual membership has lapsed, you will simply register and pay on a per-event basis, as described above.
For those who purchased a membership that is still in effect, BASUG will honor your membership privileges until your membership expires. If you paid for 12 months of BASUG membership and your anniversary date has not yet passed, you will be able to attend any quarterly meeting until your anniversary date without having to pay the per-meeting fee, and you will be able to attend trainings at a reduced fee. Logistical details will be forthcoming.
In response to member requests and in order to reduce the time required of our volunteers, BASUG implemented an on-line system for purchasing memberships and registering for events. This has turned out to be more challenging to implement than hoped, and we are continuing to explore available options. For those interested in more details, please click here.
We may return to annual memberships at some point in the future. If you have comments on these actions, please feel free to email them to Membership@BASUG.org.
Our next event will be held on June 26th. If you purchased a membership that will still be in effect on that date, you will receive an email from our Membership Coordinator, providing you with information on what to do. Please expect this email within the next few weeks. If you do not receive an email about this, and you believe your membership should still be in effect on June 26th, please send an email to the Membership Coordinator.
For questions about your membership, contact our Membership Coordinator.
Please direct all other questions to our webmaster.
Our goal is always to provide great events at great value to our local SAS community. Thank you to the Steering Committee for your efforts on this behalf. And thank you to BASUG members and friends for your patience as we sort this out. We look forward to seeing you at future events!
The Steering Committee has been working to improve what we see as shortcomings in our current member and event registration platform integrated into our web site. We have found that it cannot adequately process our annual membership renewals, though it does a reasonably good job at event registration, such as our quarterly meetings and semiannual training events.
In late-February/early March, 2012, we sent an e-mail stating that BASUG membership renewals were being put on hold. We were planning to roll out a new membership and registration system and needed to test it out. We believed this new platform would do a better job handling the annual member renewals, but the results of our testing showed that it would not meet our membership management needs.
Because we were unable to find a better registration system, we have decided instead to change how BASUG memberships will work from this point forward.
The Steering Committee is an all-volunteer group that dedicates considerable time to running this organization. Finding an alternate member registration system and testing it was a long process, especially for a core group of Steering Committee members that devoted days of their own time to this effort. In particular, special thanks go to Eric Hamann who drove the process of finding and testing the proposed new platform. Other SC members contributed lots of time and effort as well, and we are grateful to all those who assisted in this effort.
