Class Description:

Structured Query Language (SQL) is available in the base SAS system in
order to take advantage of this standardized structured coding language. No
additional purchase is necessary for you to use this tool.  PROC SQL is a
natural for individuals who are already familiar with SQL coding as well as
new users to whom it would be valuable to learn this ubiquitous language.
SQL allows ready access to many different file types and data bases with
the same general metaphor of relational design and data representation of
tables of rows and columns.  This language also has the particular
advantage in SAS of both a simpler and sometimes more efficient alternative
to the match-merge.

This course focuses on using Structured Query Language (SQL) for data
retrieval from SAS datasets and relational databases (SQL Server).
Emphasis will be placed on extracting and manipulating data from multiple
files or tables with simple and concise queries.

Course objectives: Upon completion, the student will be able to perform
queries on data using:
      Column and row  selection
      Use column calculations and functions
      Summarize data
Retrieve data from multiple sources using JOINs, UNIONs and other
methods
      Create views, tables and indices

Prerequisites:
Knowledge of basic SAS programming including:
Submitting SAS programs on your operating system
      Creating and accessing SAS datasets
      Invoking SAS Procedures
Using arithmetic, comparison, and logical operations

Bio:

Chris Yindra, principal of C Y Associates Inc. and Nauset Software Inc.,
has been a Speaker, Trainer, and Data Solution Provider for over 14 years.
SAS has been a reliable tool in the many projects he has completed.  Chris
has taught at hundreds of corporate facilities across the nation and has
provided numerous papers on the strengths and techniques he has utilized in
the SAS language.  Techniques that have enable his company to implement
solutions across several platforms.

In addition to being a SAS Certified Professional in V8, Chris has
extensive background in database architecture, UDB SQL, Transact SQL and
other programming languages.  His exceptional written and verbal skills and
ability to lead a dynamic team environment are exemplified in his skill to
share technical information and explain complicated processes. When Chris
is not expounding on the abilities of SAS, designing a data
mart, or mentoring other programmers, he is playing hard in the mountains
and lakes of Vermont, sailing off the Connecticut shore or supporting his
daughters' love of softball, skiing and road trips to Montreal.
