Look Me Up Baby:  The whys and wherefores of table lookup

By Robert Rosofsky

Health Information Systems Consulting

Given one or more values, obtain another set of values.  That is the principle of table lookup, found as a frequently used function in all modern information systems.  This presentation will discuss hard-coded methods, merge methods, and methods intrinsic to use of SAS’s user-defined FORMATs for enabling table lookup in your systems.

The presentation will cover single and multiple keys to look up values and methods for obtaining single or multiple values from within tables.  Both the functional requirements and coding samples will be provided.

The Most Important Efficiency Techniques

By Bob Virgile

How do you begin to make your programs more efficient?  This presentation organizes programming tasks into the types of functions we all perform (sorting data, manipulating files, summarizing data, to name a few), and examines programming techniques to speed up the process.  While there are many simple techniques and a few more complex ones, the overall level is geared toward programmers who have been using SAS for around six months.

We will also have a “Coder’s Corner,” with the topic and speaker to be determined.
